چکیده

We estimate the acceleration on the Local Group (LG) from the 2 Micron All-Sky Redshift Survey (2MRS). The sample used includes about 23 200 galaxies with extinction-corrected magnitudes brighter than K s = 11.25 and it allows us to calculate the flux-weighted dipole. The near-infrared flux-weighted dipoles are very robust because they closely approximate a mass-weighted dipole, bypassing the effects of redshift distortions and require no preferred reference frame. This is combined with the redshift information to determine the change in dipole with distance. The misalignment angle between the LG and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) dipole drops to 12◦ ± 7◦ at around 50 h−1 Mpc, but then increases at larger distances, reaching 21◦ ± 8◦ at around 130 h−1 Mpc. Exclusion of the galaxies Maffei 1, Maffei 2, Dwingeloo 1, IC342 and M87 brings the resultant flux dipole to 14◦ ± 7◦ away from the CMB velocity dipole. In both cases, the dipole seemingly converges by 60 h−1 Mpc. Assuming convergence, the comparison of the 2MRS flux dipole and the CMB dipole provides a value for the combination of the mass density and luminosity bias parameters 0.6 m /bL = 0.40 ± 0.09.

Detecting the Cosmic Dipole Anisotropy in Large-scale Radio Surveys

The detection of a dipole anisotropy in the sky distribution of sources in large-scale radio surveys can be used to constrain the magnitude and direction of our local motion with respect to an isotropically distributed extragalactic radio source population. Such a population is predicted to be present at cosmological redshifts in an isotropically expanding universe. The extragalactic radio sour...

The 2-10 keV XRB dipole and its cosmological implications

The hard X-ray (> 2 keV) emission of the local and distant Universe as observed with the HEAO1-A2 experiment is reconsidered in the context of large scale cosmic structure. Using all-sky X-ray samples of AGN and galaxy clusters we remove the dominant local X-ray flux from within a redshift of ∼ 0.02. We evaluate the dipolar and higher order harmonic structure in 4 X-ray colours. The estimated d...

Groups of Galaxies in the Two Micron All-sky Redshift Survey

We present the results of applying a percolation algorithm to the initial release of the Two Micron All-Sky Survey Extended Source Catalog, using subsequently measured redshifts for almost all of the galaxies with K < 11.25 mag. This group catalog is based on the first near-IR all-sky flux-limited survey that is complete to |b| = 5. We explore the dependence of the clustering on the length and ...

Novel Methods for Predicting Photometric Redshifts from Broad Band Photometry using Virtual Sensors

We calculate photometric redshifts from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Main Galaxy Sample, The Galaxy Evolution Explorer All Sky Survey, and The Two Micron All Sky Survey using two new training–set methods. We utilize the broadband photometry from the three surveys alongside Sloan Digital Sky Survey measures of photometric quality and galaxy morphology. Our first training–set method draws from th...

An Unbiassed Census of Active Galactic Nuclei in the Two Micron All Sky Survey

We present an unbiassed near-IR selected AGN sample, covering 12.56 square degrees down to Ks ∼ 15.5, selected from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS). Our only selection effect is a moderate color cut (J − Ks > 1.2) designed to reduce contamination from galactic stars. We observed both point-like and extended sources. Using the brute-force capabilities of the 2dF multi-fiber spectrograph on...
